Great Somerford
St Peter & St Paul, Great Somerford

One of the larger churches in the Woodbridge group, St Peter and St. Paul is set in a prominent position in Great Somerford, a village 4 miles south-east of Malmesbury.

The church, a Grade One Listed building, dates from the 15th century but traces of an older building have been found below the tower.

Our weekly services are mainly traditional, and of course we celebrate Feast Days as well as baptisms, weddings and funerals.  Click here for more details about our services.  We have a fortnightly Home Study group (please see the Groups page for more details of Home Groups), and our Lent lunches are well supported.

There have always been strong links between the village and the church.  In fact our allotments, reputed to be the oldest in the country, were established in 1809 by the Reverend Stephen Demainbray for the benefit of the village people.  The school uses the church for special services such as Harvest, Easter and Christmas and the Guides come to our well attended Remembrance Day Service and lead the procession from the War Memorial to the Church.  We also have a dedicated team of bell ringers with a peal of six bells.
St Peter and St Paul is a member of the Woodbridge Group of Churches.  For more information about the Group, and the other churches within the Group, click here to visit the Woodbridge Group home page.
